Midway Jewish Center seeks a dynamic, compassionate Director of Youth Engagement who will guide our informal youth education and programming, from our youngest members through our teenagers. This part time, senior leadership position, includes managing youth and teen engagement programs in close collaboration with our lay-led Youth Commission/ Advisory Committee alongside our Senior Rabbi, Cantor, Education Director, and Executive Director.

The Director of Youth Engagement is responsible for creating, arranging and implementing various activities and events for congregational Jewish youth, focused on grades 4-12. The programming is intended to bring the community youth together in a safe and fun environment consistent with Conservative Jewish values. Events may include social, educational, community service, leadership, athletic and religious elements. The ideal candidate must have a passion for working with and assisting children, as well as strong leadership skills. A positive attitude and enthusiasm for the job are a must.

Responsibilities, include but not limited to:

Tichon (Hebrew High School) Director
Director of Tichon, The MJC Hebrew High School: Tichon meets on Tuesdays from 6:15-8:15. Responsible for design of learning experiences, snacks, coordinating with Shinshin and serving as lead teacher.

• Design, direct, and implement a meaningful and impactful teen education program (grades 8-12) which includes teaching, scheduling, hiring and supervising teachers, and providing administrative support and guidance.
• Create and implement a robust array of youth engagement opportunities to offer diverse pathways for the teen community.
• Partner in the future visioning of teen education with teen leaders, parents, clergy, and the Educational Director.

Youth Group
USY Advisor (8th – 12th graders): The MUSY chapter meets out of and is supported by MJC. Candidate will be required to attend weekly meetings, conferences, supervise meetings, recruit new members, advise teen board.

Youth Program Coordinator (4th-7th grades): Plan and implement bi-monthly programs for youth (divided into JR Kadima 4th-5th and Kadima 6th – 7th grades). Responsible for all pre-planning, logistics and staffing.

• Manage all aspects of age-appropriate youth programming for community youth in grades 4-12
• Work to support elected youth group leaders to develop meaningful programs to benefit all MJC youth
• Promote regional and international USY, Young Judea and other youth conferences and events, attending these events when required
• Communicate regularly and effectively with parents, teens, and Youth Commission
• Create attractive and informative event and programming flyers for publication on social media and synagogue website
• Work with communication board member(s) to increase social media presence

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:
• Minimum two years’ experience of camp-style programs and youth education
• Be a strong Jewish role model and mentoring presence in our community, providing one-on-one and group guidance and leadership development
• Facilitate and mentor teen board members to lead and manage youth lounges and other events as appropriate
• Work with METNY USY as appropriate for regional events
• Organize/run USY board elections
• Outreach
• Assess the needs of unaffiliated youth in eastern Nassau County
• Create programming designed to attract this population through a variety of programs and events, including social, holiday, educational, community service and religious elements
• Build relationships with MJC families and parents to build an inclusive community for congregational youth
• Manage staff support, food, budget, and transportation for youth events as necessary
• Collaborate with MJC clergy, staff, lay leadership, youth leaders, and parents, as appropriate
• Attend all Youth Commission meetings
• Integrate programming with synagogue calendar, and assist with broader synagogue initiatives and special events
• Envision long-range plans for youth groups
